US.10- My Kingdom for a Roof

"Live from New York! It's Saturday night!" Err... I mean Wednesday.

About the only thing missing from the third or fourth version of the night schedule that prevented it from being mistaken for a "Saturday Night Live" comedy sketch was a cameo from Tina Fey as Sarah Palin, or maybe Christopher Walken reminding everyone that the only thing we really needed was "more cow bell."

"Take it with a grin of salt." - Yogi Berra

After a rain and controversy-filled day in which several men's matches were started, against the players' wishes, only to be interrupted after just a few games in what those players later complained were dangerously slick court conditions, then cancelled altogether. Afterward a small group of men's players met with tournament officials, following Rafa Nadal blaming the hasty start of play on the tournament's money-first, players-last priorities, the whole scenario was set to play out yet again when all four women's quarterfinals were scheduled to simultaneously begin in the night session.

Nearly all the eight quarterfinalists met with officials BEFORE the start of play tonight, hoping to avoid a debacle similar to what the men had gone through earlier. As it it turned out, only Serena Williams and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova actually got out on court at all, warming up on Ashe before a drizzly mist returned and chased them off court. Not long afterward, play was cancelled for the second straight day.

"It ain't the heat, it's the humility." - Yogi Berra

Ah... how's that decision to not build a roof-ready stadium a few years ago to replace Louis Armstrong as the main show court of this tournament look now? Big was deemed to be better at the time, but, as it's turned out, size didn't really matter.

All for Day 10. More tomorrow (with luck).

Save a lover for a rainy day - and another, in case it doesn't rain.

Maybe a good idea. Or you can be like Gene Kelly and singing in the rain ;-)

Well enough - a serious question - what happens if it's raining Thursday too - 3 games the next three days? and the unthinkable it also rains Friday - will they continue into next week. Ever happened before?

Well, they've pushed the men's final to Monday multiple times recently because of weather delays. They could very easily push both singles finals into Monday (or even Tuesday -- a NASCAR race from this past weekend ended up being run on Tuesday this week) if they had to. I don't know if they've ever had to push things that far back, though. Somehow, I doubt it. Surely, not the women's final, at least.

Now the semi Serena vs Caroline is secure after her win over Petkovic. Perhaps the can sing karaokee together as they have done a couple of times ;-) Looking forward to it. I saw Serenas game and she is not looking too dangerous so i expect a good semifinal. If Caroline loses it's ok to me, but I actually think she'll win.
